Inauguration of K T Venkatarama Reddy Endowment and 

First Endowment Lecture


          KTVR Group Hospital, Coimbatore organised the events of Inauguration of the K T Venkatarama Reddy Endowment and the 1st Endowment Lecture at The Residency Hotel, Coimbatore on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010 from 6 pm to 9 pm. More than 300 doctors and others participated in the event.

 

          K T Venkatarama Reddy endowment was created in memory of the founder of the KTVR Vijaydeepa Group of companies. Shri K T Venkatarama Reddy was born on 03-June-1924 in a poor agricultural family in Kolathur village, in present day Mettur taluk in Salem district. With his sheer hard work, he achieved considerably in the fields of agriculture, building construction, promotion of ownership apartments, real estate and healthcare. He passed away as an educationalist on 07-July-2008.


          Dr V Mohan, MD, FRCP (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Ireland), PhD, DSc, FNASc, Chairman & Chief Diabetologist, Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, President & Chief of Diabetes Research, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai and President of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) - Tamil Nadu Chapter, received the 1st Endowment Award and delivered the 1stEndowment Lecture titled 


“Diabetes Epidemic in India – Why and What can be done?”


during which he highlighted the burden of diabetes in India and how small measures by each one of us could help in addressing the issue at least to a certain extent. He appealed to corporate and multinational companies to generously allot funds for projects which would help the community become more aware of the complications of diabetes and thereby assist in preventing deaths and disabilities due to the same.

 

          Dr V Mohan also gave away the cash prizes and certificates to the four winners of the Diabetes Essay Writing Contest 2010, which had been conducted by KTVR Group Hospital on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at KTVR Knowledge Park for Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore to commemorate the completion of KTVR Group Hospital’s 20 years of service. The details of the winners are:

 

First Prize:

Priyavarsha Ravichandran, 9th Std

Vidya Vikasini  Matriculation Higher Secondary School    Rs. 10,000/-


Second Prize:

M. R. Regesh Anand, 11th Std

Vijayalakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School        Rs. 7,500/-


Third Prize:

The third prize was shared between the following candidates:

S. Roshini Shree, 12th Std

Venkatalakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School    Rs. 2,500/-

P. Manoranjitham, 12th Std

T A Ramalinga Chettiar Higher Secondary School              Rs. 2,500/-

 

          Dr C Sylendra Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. After inaugurating the endowment, he addressed the gathering, during which he highlighted the importance of physical fitness and how it was made to take a backseat because of today’s competitive world. He advised parents that playing was not a distraction from studies for children, contrary to the popular belief. He added that none of the failed candidates in the recent board examination were sportspersons.


          Dr V Janarthanan, MS, FICS, FAIS, Managing Director, KTVR Group Hospital, delivered the Presidential Address during which he spoke upon the 20 years of history in the healthcare field that KTVR Group Hospital had created since its inauguration in 1990. He also recollected the experience that he gained from his father and the founder of the group, Late Shri K T Venkatarama Reddy.


          Shri R Arengaswamy, BSc, BL, Joint Commissioner (Retd.) – Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowment, Administration Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and Shri V Balasubramanian, MA, MPhil, MBA, Director, Avinashilingam Jan Shikshan Sansthan felicitated the function. They recalled their associations with the founder and mentioned specific anecdotes indicating certain virtues of his.


          Dr J Vijay Venkatraman, MBBS, F. Diab, Director & Consultant Diabetologist, Diab-at-ease Clinik, KTVR Group Hospital, briefed about the endowment and presented a movie clip on the founder to the audience. He also read the brief profile of Dr V Mohan and explained why he was chosen to be the first recipient of the K T Venkatarama Endowment Award. He further recollected the experience that he gained from Dr V Mohan who was his teacher, during his studentship days.


          Dr S Sundaramurthy, Director & Consultant Paediatrician, KTVR Group Hospital welcomed the gathering. Er V Loganathan, Managing Director of Vijaydeepa Constructions (P) Ltd and Secretary of KTVR Knowledge Park for Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore proposed the vote of thanks.
