Healthcare Insurance
Healthcare delivery system in India is currently witnessing a rapid change. As per the current estimate, the amount spent on in-patient treatment (private) is Rs 27, 000 crores and this is expected to grow to Rs 73, 000 crores by 2012. There is going to be a significant shift from the private way of meeting the hospitalization expenses to insurance-led coverage. This has led to a significant growth of medical insurance. With our Government announcing the universal health scheme, much needed impetus is given to the sector.
In order to meet the challenges thrown by the massive growth of health insurance sector, the insurance regulatory and development authority (IRDA) has awarded licenses to third party administration companies as service providers. These third party service providers, in turn, have identified and selected some hospitals for providing health related services to their policy holders.
